Home Channel highlights for August

Here’s our round-up of the must-view programmes on the Home Channel this August.

With the weather ever so slightly warmer, we’re drawn back to the garden. Series 9 of Design-a-Garden kicks off this weekend, and in this series, presenter Melanie Walker follows a group of final year landscaping students who are tasked with creating themed small gardens that showcase some of the worlds renowned landscape design icons for the opening of Lifestyle Show Gardens 2014. Catch it from 2 August on Tuesdays at 9pm, with repeats on Wednesdays at 9am, Thursdays at 1pm, Fridays at 5pm, or on Saturdays at 10am and 7pm and Sundays at 3pm and 10pm.
Series 10 of the ever-popular Get it Done is on from 6 August, and as usual, Peter and Annalien will be showing you the materials and tools you’ll need to enable you to build your very own home projects. They will show how to use your power-tools correctly and tell you exactly what mistakes to avoid and what tricks to use. Watch it on Mondays at 3pm, or catch a repeat on Wednesdays at 7pm, Thursdays at 10.30pm, Fridays at 11am, on Saturdays at 11am and 8pm or Sundays at 4pm.
Call us secret voyeurs, but we love to take a look inside other people’s houses, so we’re looking forward to series 1 of Best Houses on 7 August. From sprawling country estates to urban homes in compact spaces, viewers of Best Houses get an up-close look inside some of the most inspiring dwellings around, while in-depth interviews allow them to meet the people who live in them and the professionals who create them. Catch it on Mondays at 12pm, with repeats on Tuesdays at 4pm, Thursdays at 8pm or Fridays at 8am.

For arts and craft-lovers, the start of series 10 of Show Me How on 11 August is one to diarise. The show has heaps of wonderful projects that are sure to inspire you. Presenter Gloria Bastos will be at it again with her line-up of guests who will be guiding you through a series of great arts & crafts. Watch it on Mondays at 6pm, with repeats on Tuesdays at 11pm, Wednesdays at 10am, Thursdays at 2pm or on Saturdays at 10.30am and 7.30pm and Sundays at 3.30pm and 10.30pm.
We’re always interested in seeing home hunters find a great property, which is why we’ll be tuning into series 1 of Wreck or Ready, which starts on 15 August. In this brand new BBC show, property experts Jonnie Irwin and Jane Farnham compete against each other to find one puzzled family their perfect new property – but will they chose one of Jonnie’s rundown renovation projects or a ready-to-move-into home hand-picked by Jane? Watch the action on Mondays at 8.30am, Tuesdays at 12.30pm, Wednesdays at 4.30pm or Fridays at 8.30pm.
For a total escape from reality, why not watch Million Dollar Contractor? “Contractor to the Stars” Stephen Fanuka, gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most amazing spaces and construction of Manhattan’s high-end luxury homes. The series focuses on the details, the materials and the insane amount of money clients spend to allow Stephen to create million-dollar projects. Throughout the series, Stephen shares tips and tricks of the trade that first-time DIYers and home improvement aficionados will appreciate. Watch it on Mondays at 7.30pm, with repeats on Tuesdays at 10pm, Wednesdays at 11.30am or Thursdays at 3.30pm.
